Technology Platform

Using its unique technology platform, ArunA has overcome common obstacles to hESC research such as:

  • difficulty in the maintenance of their unique characteristics and a normal karyotype
  • limited knowledge of the conditions under which the cells could be uniformly directed to a limited cell fate
  • lack of definition of the conditions under which the cells could be used for high throughput and high content screening, eg, tissue culture monolayer
  • inability to produce cells in large scale

Adherent monolayer provides uniform cells for imaging
Primary human neural cells for use in cellular assays are available from few commercial sources. And when available, these human neural cell products are delivered in the form of neurospheres.  Neurospheres are not easy to format for cell assay purposes and quantitative imaging because of their three-dimensional structure of cells.  ArunA’s technology eliminates this problem by creating an adherent cell culture forming a single layer, ideal for current cell assay methods dominated by planer imaging systems.  The cells are highly suitable for genetic manipulaton and multiple assay formats.  Accordingly, a reliable and uniform source of adherent human neural cells derived from hES cells significantly enhance neural cell based assays.
 

Monolayer adherent cultures are amenable to genetic manipulation for production of gene reporter assays, immunocytochemistry and cell labeling.

Ability to produce various cell types
With our proprietary technology, ArunA can maintain human embryonic stem cells and direct their differentiation into various cell types.  Our serum-free and feeder-free adherent monolayer technology platform provides “off the shelf” access to normal human cell types. ArunA’s neural progenitor cells have the potential of turning into a wide variety, if not all cell types of the central nervous systems.  The cells are robust, easily maintained, and highly proliferative.  This cellular technology combined with ArunA’s proprietary qualified media and plate coating systems make their stem cell kits an efficient and economical choice for drug discovery and basic research.
 
From small scale to large scale
Current competitive offerings are produced using adult and fetal human sources which are not easily grown into the large populations needed for todays high throughput research. Until recently, this limitation has been addressed with the use of transformed cell lines available where endogenous proliferative pathways have been altered.  With the availability of ArunA’s highly proliferative NP cells, the advatages of transformed, adult and fetal cells has been achieved in one cell source
